Joe Edd Coldewey

He was born in Hermleigh, Texas, to Leonard and Othelle Nowlin Coldewey on March 16, 1935. He was the second of four children.

Joe was a Christian man who loved his family and enjoyed life. While living in Colorado City, he worked for the local TV cable company and at Dowell Oilfield Services, working his way up to supervisor. Outside of work, he volunteered for the Colorado City Volunteer Fire Department and was an active member of the Lions Club. He enjoyed operating his HAM radio, being an armchair quarterback (especially for the Dallas Cowboys), having coffee with friends at the Dairy Queen, and making trips in his RV with Gena.

After retirement, he spent 11 years working with his son-in-law in Tyler and visiting with customers and his grandchildren. He and his wife, Gena Bradley Coldewey, had recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. His love for (and teasing of) his family and friends will be remembered by all who knew him.

Joe is survived by his wife, Gena Bradley Coldewey; daughters Sharla Williamson and husband, Dean; and Sharon Guthrie and husband, Ron; by grandsons Brad Williamson and wife, Katie; Chris Williamson and friend, Andrea; Jared Guthrie and wife, Rachel; Brant Guthrie and wife, Amy; and Shaun Guthrie and wife, Jessica. His great grandchildren are Ainsley Williamson, Raegan Williamson, Caleb Guthrie, Brooklyn Guthrie, Allison Guthrie, Peyton Guthrie, and Julianne Guthrie. In addition, two younger siblings who were dear to his heart: Joyce Reddin (Bob) and Raymond Coldewey.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Othelle Coldewey, and by an older brother, Maurice Coldewey.

A graveside service to celebrate the life of Joe Edd will be held in the Loraine Cemetery on Friday, September 11, at 3 P.M.
