She was born in Colorado City to Miguel and Simona Rivera Flores on June 19, 1959.
Josie was a feisty little pistol who enjoyed her job as a corrections officer for TDCJ Ware Unit until her health made it so she was no longer able to work. She was a great mother and grandmother who loved her family with all she had. In her younger years she enjoyed refurbishing old furniture, but in her later years she found peace in quiet times embroidering or taking care of her pets or any stray animal that would come to her. She truly was a woman who marched to the beat of her own drum and that drum was filled with love for her family.
Josie is survived by her son Chris Chaney and wife Perla of Colorado City, her daughter Michelle Martinez and husband Marty of Abilene and by her grandchildren Christopher Chaney II, Zachery Miller, Bryson Miller, and Meagan Miller. She is also survived by her sisters Mary Reyes and husband Bobby of Colorado City, Lupe Rowland of Big Spring, and Eloise Lyons of Abilene, as well as by a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Miguel and Simona Rivera, her late husband Gil Gillilan, her brother Raymond Flores, and by sisters Nellie Jordan and Theresa Hodnett.
Services will be private and at the discretion of the family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Kiker Seale Funeral Home.
