June 10, 1966 – September 24, 2019
Kent Allen Ruth, 53, Colorado City, passed away at the Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo on September 24, 2019 with his loving family by his side. He was born in Somers Point New Jersey on June 10, 1966 to Virgil and Helen Bell Ruth. Kent was a hardworking man who loved his family with all that he had. Whether at home or on the job safety was a way of life for Kent and he took his job a safety instructor for the oilfield very seriously, as nobody ever got hurt on his watch. When it came to the oil field he was a great teacher, in one year he taught over a thousand workers the safe way to do their job, and always made it clear that everything on the job site can and will hurt or kill you if you are not paying attention and working hard like you should be. When newer safer practices came around he wasn’t afraid to learn them so that he could teach them to all that worked with him, as he loved his coworkers. Kent was also very generous at work, sharing homemade pies his wife Sharon baked, barbequing, and even sharing items out of his own lunchbox if his coworkers were hungry. Kent was a great provider for his family, making sure to find a way to get them what they needed or make or fix the items himself, as he was very good at fixing things and working with his hands. It seemed he always had a project or two going. In his spare time Kent could be seen riding his motorcycling, telling stories, singing songs that he enjoyed, cracking a good joke, or throwing a killer party, which he said the more people the better. At times he seemed bigger than life, he will be missed by all that knew him and got to be a part of his life. Kent is survived by his wife Sharon Ruth of Colorado City, by his children Jamie Dotson of Kansas, Kevin Ruth of North Carolina, and Ashley Ruth of Wisconsin, by his step-children Daniel Cosby and wife Kim of Sweetwater, Jason Cosby of Sweetwater, and Sherri Shumaker of Sweetwater, as well as by his grandchildren Jasmin, Katie, Summer, Chad Jr., Serenity, and Alexi and 9 other grandchildren. Kent is also survived by his brothers Jimmy Ruth and wife Cheryl of Big Spring, Bobby Ruth and wife Amanda of Big Spring, Randy Ruth and wife Samantha of Abilene, and Alvin Ruth and wife Brandy of Colorado City and by a sister Junelle Ruth of Abilene. Arrangements have been entrusted to Kiker Seale Funeral Home.
