Margaret Diane Rees

Margaret Diane Carter Rees passed away on August 1, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, family, and laughter. Known for her devotion to family and friends, Margaret loved talking over a cup of coffee, gathering around the table with loved ones, and sharing laughter with all. Her quick wit and wonderful sense of humor brought happiness to everyone around her.

She spent her childhood in the refinery camps of New Mexico and Texas before graduating from Reagan County High School in Big Lake, Texas. There she met the love of her life, Tom Rees. Their love story began in high school and grew into more than six decades of marriage, family, and cherished memories. Margaret attended Texas Tech University before transferring to The University of Texas at Austin, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Education. She dedicated more than 20 years to teaching elementary school children how to read. Her patience and unwavering belief that every child could learn made a lasting difference in the lives of countless students and their families.

More than any accomplishment, Margaret was most proud of her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose greatest happiness came from having her family together. She loved opening her home to family and friends and especially treasured hosting large Thanksgiving gatherings, where generations came together around her table. Those celebrations, filled with wonderful food, laughter, and lasting memories, reflected the love and hospitality that defined her life.

Margaret is survived by her husband of more than sixty years, Tom Rees, Sr.; her children, Tom Rees, Jr. and his wife Becky, Melanie Marshall and her husband Jeff, and Beau Rees and his wife Billie; and her grandchildren, Loren, Sarah, Julia, Meagan, Erin, Garrett, Hannah, Blyss, and Reagan; and her great-grandchildren, Zady, Zandy, Lawson, Brexton, Layton, and Miller. She is also survived by many friends who enhanced her life beyond measure. She was preceded in death by her parents, Acie and Dottie Carter; her sisters Geraldine and Betty, and her brother, Jerry.

Margaret will be remembered for her gentle heart, generous hospitality, dedication to family, gift for friendship, and freely shared laughter. She leaves behind a beloved family and many cherished friends who will forever remember her love and laughter. Though she will be deeply missed, her spirit will live on in every story shared around the dinner table, every family gathering, and every life she touched.

A Celebration of Life for Margaret will be held at the First Methodist Church in Colorado City on Thursday, August 6 at 10 am. A private interment will take place at a later date.
