She was born on July 18, 1941, in Colorado City, Texas, to Silberio and Juanita Torres Valdez.
Mary was a devout Catholic woman whose faith and love for her family guided every part of her life. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and an even more adoring great-grandmother. Throughout her life, Mary worked as a nurse, caring for others with compassion and grace. Her favorite time of day was the evening, when she could enjoy a beautiful sunset and then dance beneath the moon and stars. She loved music, dancing, and cheering for her favorite teams: the Dallas Cowboys, Anaheim Angels, and Los Angeles Lakers. A gifted artist, Mary found peace and joy in painting delicate flowers and colorful birds.
Mary is survived by her loving husband, Bill Haislip of Abilene; her son, Edward Rentz of Odessa; her daughter, Melissa Crouch of Abilene; her grandchildren, Tiffany Crouch and husband Hison Boot’y of Hemet, California, Amy Moore and husband Nick of Anderson, South Carolina, Anthony Rentz of California, and Aaron Rentz of California; and her great-grandchildren Zakiyyah, Lamar James, Isson, Barrett, and Reveille. She is also survived by her sisters Rosa Fierro and husband Tony of Amarillo, Teresa Garcia of Abilene, and Cecilia Wilson of Abilene.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Silberio and Juanita Valdez; her son, Chris Rentz; her brothers Andres, Jessie, Jose, and Adan Valdez; and her sisters Eva Lujan, Juana Diaz, and Ruth “Lala” Madrid.
