OBITUARY
Mercedes Guerrero Martinez
April 27, 1930 – January 31, 2021
Mercedes Guerrero Martinez, 90, of Colorado City went to be with her Lord and Savior after a brief illness at her daughter’s home in Belton on Sunday, January 31, 2021. She was born in Bastrop, Texas on April 27, 1930 to Celestino and Sarah Espinoza Guerrero. Mercedes was a loving mother grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother who was very devout in her faith praying the rosary on a daily basis paying particular attention to pray to mother Mary for all of her family, to give them health and safety in their daily endeavors. She was a faithful Catholic woman, a member of Saint Ann’s Catholic Church of Colorado City and a member of the Cursillistas. In her spare time she enjoyed dancing (especially the twist), cooking and making quilts, but most of all spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, the favorite one being left up for a heated debate. She wasn’t much of a driver but tried her hardest to drive that ’67 Camaro she had to pick up her grandchildren grinding gears the whole way. Her warm smile and kind heart will leave many of fond memories and lessons in faith will be passed down for generations to come. Mercedes is the mother of 17, grandmother of 57, great-grandmother of 122, and great-great grandmother of 47 children. A host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Roman Martinez, her son Celestino Martinez, daughters Ramona Madrid and Mercedes Martinez by grandchildren Gavino Madrid, Krystal Limones, Ethan Martinez, Alex Jaramillo, Crystal Jaramillo, and Lucas Jaramillo, as well as by 6 brothers and 3 sisters. A Mass of Christian Burial for Mercedes will be held on Thursday, February 4th at 10 at Saint Ann’s Catholic Church in Colorado City with burial to follow in the Mitchell County Cemetery. Pall bearers for the service will be Michael Javalera, Macario Martinez Jr, Robert Martinez Jr., Philip B. Martinez Jr., Christopher Martinez, Lorenzo Uribe, and Tino (Joey) Martinez. For those unable to attend Thursday services they will be live streamed on Kiker Seale Funeral Home’s Facebook Page. The family will hold a visitation on Wednesday, February 3rd from 5-8 pm in the Kiker Seale Funeral Home with a Vigil Mass to be held at 6pm and a Rosary to be held at 7pm. It shows how much love there is in your family. Although this will be a difficult time find comfort in knowing that your grandma knew and felt how much you all
Loved her. If we could all see it from the outside looking in, I know she felt it! 💗

First and foremost we send our prayers and condolences to the many many many family members and loved ones of grandma. While we didn't have the pleasure to know her the way many of you did, her impact was just the same. I would always marvel at her being at every family function and I would often reflect on what a blessing it was for her to see so many generations of her family. I thank God for the life she lived and the legacy she has left behind.

Dear Grandma,
I'll start with saying thank you for being the rock that holds our family together. Without you, we would stumble and fall. Your love for your family shines forever and that is truly beautiful. You loved each and every one of us with your entire heart. It's a love that can never be replaced.
Thank you for showing me how to find strength in struggles and how to handle tough obstacles with a sense of grace and dignity. Your will power and determination to succeed through every battle now shines through me. Thank you for believing in your faith. God is going to gladly welcome a woman of such class into his kingdom.
On this day you grabbed me and hugged me tight saying “my baby.” I can only hope I’ve made you as proud as I am to have the honor of being the favorite grand daughter of Mrs.Mercedes Martinez.
