Mat was born February 19th 1931 in Hylton TX. Mat married Edith Cherry on March 19th, 1949. She remained the love of his life and best friend for almost 63 years.
In the early part of their life they moved to Crane and where he worked for others until he started his own business. They returned to Colorado City where
he and his dad founded Matlocks butane in 1958. He later sold this business to his two sons who currently operate it today. He then founded Matlock Auto Sales in 1988 and often said that was his favorite job he ever had. Mat was a business man and was good at it, but that was not his true passion and calling.
Mat pastored Christian Temple Church in Colorado City for 30 years. Through these business ventures and pastoring of this church, Mats family started to grow and continues to grow today. Mat loved his Lord, his family, his church family,
and his community.
The family is having visitation at Christian Temple Church on Wednesday Jan 11th from 6-8 pm. The funeral service will be held at Christian Temple Church Thursday Jan 12th at 3:00 pm. Graveside will follow at Dorn Cemetary.
