She was born on March 24, 1941 in Lake Worth, Texas to Lloyd and Ruby Simmons Young.
Vergie was a quiet woman that kept to herself for the most part. She loved her family, and in turn they loved her. If they needed something and she was able to provide it, her family knew that she would help them. She believed in hard-work having worked several jobs as a waitress, in the food industry, and helping out in a daycare taking care of children. Vergie was also a very independent woman, often determined to do things on her own even when it was a struggle. She will be dearly missed by those that loved her.
Vergie is survived by a son Steve Renfro of Big Spring, a daughter Debra Mathis and husband Joe of Big Spring, by a sister Dorothy Watkins of Coloarado City, by grandchildren Gary Barbee, Amber Hill, Danny Barbee, Misti Mathis, Michael Mathis, and by 10 great-grandchildren.
