Verna Mae Devorce, 86, went to be with her Lord and Savior after a stay at the Mitchell County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Thursday, June 6, 2019. She was born on June 9, 1932 in Jacksonville, Texas to the late Henry and Jeffrey Carpenter Scott. Verna Mae was a woman who enjoyed a modest life praising her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and enjoying her family. She had attended many different churches in her life before settling down as a longtime member of the House of Hope in Colorado City. She was strong and steadfast in her Christian beliefs, and she raised her children up the same. She didn’t believe in holding onto material things and if she had something you needed she would gladly give it to you. Verna Mae raised her 4 children in Colorado City, teaching them each valuable life-lessons. In her spare time she enjoyed going to church and singing in the choir, and she enjoyed shelling peas and pecans, as they kept her hands busy and relaxed her mind. Verna Mae is survived by her son Carl Devorce, by her grandchildren Brittney Maxwell, Jazmin Maxwell, Tim Green, Lashunda Johnson, Carl Devorce Jr, Maya Devorce, Kristi Kahl, and Shenia Brownlow-Dindy, as well as by several great-grandchildren. Also surviving are 2 brothers Jimmy Scott and wife Willie Bea of Douglass and Ray Scott and wife Frances of Dallas, and 3 sisters Naomi Jones of Weatherford, Imogene Roach of Tallahassee, Florida, and Ruthie Dews of Whitehouse, Texas, as well as by several nieces, nephews, and dear cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband L.C. Devorce, by her children Elroy Devorce, Floyda Collins, and Mary Maxwell, by one brother William Scott Jr., and by four sisters Johnnie Upshaw, Margie Scott, Mary Harris, and Ruth Wilson. A funeral service for Verna Mae will be held at the Kiker Seale Funeral home on Thursday, June 13th at 11 am with Floyd Green and Sandra Green officiating, burial will follow in the Mitchell County Cemetery. The family will be present for a visitation on Wednesday, June 12th from 5-7 pm at the Kiker Seale Funeral Home. Those wishing may share a memory by visiting www.kikerseale.com

Great memories of the pecans shelled and bagged sent to Carl's friends at Anchor Drilling Fluid. Her son was a compliment to the fine job she did in investing him.

It saddens me to receive word today of Mrs. Devorce's passing. She is remembered as a kind and loving parent whose family is regarded with the highest esteem. RIP.

Mrs. Devorce was always so kind and loving that each Christmas she would send bags of shelled pecans for all of us that worked with Carl. Those gifts were always so special. Carl and family, please know you are all in our thoughts and prayers. The Estep Family
