1933 - 2015
Mrs. Verta Marie Hardegree departed this life to meet our Lord on June 15, 2015. She was born June 2, 1933 to Curtis and Lois Rogers. She attended and graduated from Colorado City High School in May 1950. After dating Weldon Dean Hardegree for 2 years she became his bride on June 16, 1950 at the tender age of 17. From their union, they raised four children.
Verta spent the early years of their marriage raising their children but once they were in school she started working in the medical field. For over 30 years she worked for several doctors in Colorado City and Abilene as well as working for Root Memorial Hospital. The next 10 years of her life she spent working for Western Texas College.
Serving the Lord by being active in her local church, 22nd and Austin Church of Christ, was the most important thing in her life, and she loved teaching children about the Lord and singing praises to Him. Outside of her family and church she enjoyed being involved with city, state and national politics.
She is survived by her husband, Weldon, of 65 years; son Sid Hardegree of Snyder; daughter Deana Hardegree of Midland; daughter Becky (Lynn) Carlson and Kim (Dieter) Gerstenberger of Midland. She has 7 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Verta is also survived by her brother, Noble Rogers of Colorado City. She is preceded in death by her Father and Mother, her sister Opal Turnbow, brother Paul Rogers, and brother Bill Rogers.
Visitation will be held on June 18th from 6-8 pm at Kiker-Seale Funeral home. Services will be held on Friday the 19th at 10 am at the 22nd and Austin Church of Christ. Burial will follow at the Colorado City cemetery. Condolences may also be sent to www.kikerseale.com. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to the American Heart Association, Christian Care Center at 1000 Wiggins Parkway, Mesquite, TX 75150 or the charity of your choice.
