

Walter Lee Mitchell, 86, Colorado City, passed away in the Mitchell County Nursing and Rehabilition Center of Colorado City after a brief illness on Saturday, December 19, 2020 with his loving wife by his side.
Walter was born May 7, 1934 in Mitchell County Texas. He was the youngest child of nine that was born to Walter and Ava Mitchell. Walter attended primary school at the Seven Wells Community School and high school at Colorado City High School.
Walter married Mildred Jacqueline Isbell on February 26, 1957 in Colorado City Texas, they had two children Ava Jane and Audie Dean.
Walter served his country in the Army and was deployed for seventeen months in Germany. After returning to civilian life Walter started working for the Colorado City Street Department. Walter retired after 30 years as street superintendent in 1999.
After retiring Walter and Mildred enjoyed traveling to see family and attending blue grass festivals. Walter took great pride in his home and yard. Among his favorite plants to grow was roses. Another hobby was woodworking and carpentry. He made many wonderful creations such as china hutches, grandfather clocks, and custom cabinets for his home.
Walter is survived by his wife Mildred Mitchell of Colorado City, his daughter Ava Jane and son-in-law Kelvin (Melvin) McMillan of Marietta OK, three grandchildren Millicent Danne McMillan of Tahlequah OK, Allyn McMilan of Burkburnett, and Kristopher Mitchell of Colorado City. Walter also has four great-grandchildren, Dylan Sanders, Adalyn Marie McMillan, Destyni Mitchell, and Kyrin Mitchell. Many nieces, nephews, and dear friends also survive.
A graveside service for Walter will be held on Wednesday, December 23rd at 2 pm in the Colorado City Cemetery with his nephew Michael Moore officiating.
