Ursula M. Windey, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on March 11, 2019 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, after spending 28 years in Stafford, Virginia, prior to recently moving to Colorado Springs. She was born in Cologne, Germany, on April 10, 1941 and was an only child. She immigrated to the U.S. from Germany with her mom and dad in 1952.
Ursula graduated from Waukesha South High School in 1960 and Mount Mary College, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in 1964. Ursula met her future husband, John Windey, while in college, and the couple married in 1964. They spent 18 years traveling the world together while he served in the U.S. Air Force and were married for nearly 55 years. She especially enjoyed the twelve years in Germany, four years while serving in the USAF, and another eight after retiring.
Ursula was an amazingly caring, compassionate and giving woman, with a German spitfire personality that made her very unique, lovable and fun. She would literally give you the shirt off her back but never had a problem telling you what was on her mind. She loved her family, friends and her dog, Thor, and spent countless hours gardening and bird watching when she had the time. She had numerous jobs throughout her life, including substitute teacher (she spoke three languages) and Army secretary. But her favorite job was working as a home healthcare provider, closely connecting with her patients, even taking one patient on a trip to Europe to visit her son.
She leaves behind the following family members to cherish her memory - devoted husband, John Windey (Stafford, VA); loving children, Patrick Windey (Colorado Springs, CO), Michelle Windey (Woodbridge, VA) and Julie Bowman (Smyrna, GA); son-in-law Richard Bowman; grandson-in-law Cameron Volk; granddaughters Jazzmin Windey Volk, Gabriela Windey and Kira Bowman;and great grandsons Jack and John Volk.
A family graveside service will be held at Pikes Peak National Cemetery, Colorado Springs, on March 21, 2019 at 1pm. Ursula will truly be missed.
