COLUMBIA - A memorial service for Joseph Haralson Reid, 88, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday February 29, 2020, at First Baptist Church in Boyce Chapel with a private burial in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in Boyce Chapel. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.
Mr. Reid died Tuesday, February 25, 2020. Born on June 2, 1931 in New Orleans, LA, he was the son of the late Milton Ernest Reid and Gertrude Morgan Reid.
Joseph was a graduate of Edmunds High School in Sumter, SC, Class of 1949. He attended Clemson College for two years when he decided to serve his country in the US Air Force. In 1957, he married the love of his life, Virginia M. Reid.
He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Columbia, where he sang in the choir and was a member of Bible Survey Sunday School Class, as well as a member of a weekly men’s Bible study group. Joe was a faithful Gideon and will be remembered for being a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Everyone knew him for his woodworking talents, witty personality and for his relationship with Jesus Christ.
Surviving are; son, Joseph H. “Joe” Reid, Jr. (Bonnie) of Sumter, SC; daughter, Kathleen Cliver (James) of Roebuck; granddaughters, Ashley Reid Cox (Jordan), Amanda Cliver Galloway (Ian), Rachel Cliver Wood (Cody), Natalie Cliver; great-grandsons, Cooper Cox, Kei Cox and a great-granddaughter, Hannah Galloway.
