

Born in Columbia, SC, he was a son of Anton Frank Behles and Elizabeth Winters Behles. A graduate of Dreher High School, he served in the U.S. Navy and attended the University of South Carolina. For 45 years, he worked as a public accountant at J.W. Hunt and Company. In addition to his professional life, he gave back to the community by volunteering at Providence Hospital and Harvest Hope Food Bank. He was a devoted member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Affectionately known as Al or George, he enjoyed bowling, tennis, golf, boating, and spending time at the lake house on Lake Murray.
Surviving are his nieces and nephews, Paul Behles of Lexington SC, Carol Kitchen (Ray) of Lexington, SC, Anthony “Tony” Behles (Tina) of Lexington, SC, Joseph Behles of Columbia, SC, Timothy Behles (Kathy) of Broken Arrow, Okla., Susan Walters of Broken Arrow, Okla., Jack Williams (Susie) of Summerville, SC, Norma Davis (Glenn) of Jacksonville, NC, Mary “Mimi” Dail (Tommy) of Columbia, SC, Laurie Seel of Irmo, SC, and cousin, Ann Winters of Columbia, SC.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Lucy H. Behles and his brothers, Frank Behles and Ray Behles.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with burial at St. Peter’s Cemetery. The Rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with visitation to follow until 7:30 p.m.
