Angelo Melonas was born to Christ E. and Antiope S. Melonas in Columbia, S.C., March 21, 1940. After graduating from the University of South Carolina, he was selected by the Federal Government to be employed as an agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Angelo married Linnea Deacon, August 19, 1972 in Salisbury, Maryland. After retirement from the FBI he took a job with Richland County to facilitate the reduction in jail population by allowing persons convicted of nonviolent crimes, to serve their sentences by means other than incarceration. Upon returning to Columbia, S.C., Angelo and Linn reaffirmed their vows of marriage in the Greek Orthodox Church.
Angelo was survived by his daughter, Laura Dargan and his son in-law, Timothy Dargan of Charleston, SC; his son, Christopher George Melonas and his daughter-in-law, Holly Melonas of Charleston, SC; grandchildren, Loukas Melonas and Deacon Melonas of Charleston, SC; and brother, Franklin Melonas of Columbia, SC.
Angelo was predeceased by his wife Linnea Melonas, brothers Veron Melonas of Columbia, SC and George Melonas of Lexington, SC, by his sisters, Vaness Pachis of Deerfield, Florida, Roddy Anestos of Savannah, GA, and Mary Lewis of Columbia, SC, sister-in-law, Lillian Melonas of Columbia, SC, brother-in-law, Paul Anestos; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 16, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
