The family will again receive friends in the Nazareth UMC fellowship hall following the burial. Mrs. Jones died peacefully on Saturday, March 7, 2015, at Palmetto Health Richland under the tender care of Hospice, her daughter by her side. Born July 31, 1934, in Saluda County, SC, she was the daughter of the late George Virgil and Eleanor Rutland Goff. After graduating from Batesburg-Leesville High School in 1953, Mrs. Jones attended Limestone College. She served as President of the Student Body and earned her BA in Music in 1957. Her training was quickly put to work in a Red Cross Hospital in Germany, boosting the morale of recovering patients with music and singing. As much as she loved Germany, she grew homesick for America and accepted a position with the Red Cross in Key West, Florida. One strong hurricane convinced her to head back to South Carolina for good, where she enjoyed working at the University of South Carolina College Placement Center. She married Robert Jennings Jones in 1965, had one daughter (Robin), and taught piano lessons from her home while caring for her family. She is survived by her daughter, Robin Riggs (Tyler); and grandchildren, Zoe and Noah. Although Mrs. Jones was an only child herself, her dear cousins were as sisters and brothers to her. She is survived by cousins, Ethel "Mopsy" Lake, Bobby Goff, Jane Berry, Buford Goff, Robert Goff, Patsy Vega, Jimmie Northey, Louise Clark, Joel Lindler, Gloria Patton, Barbara Harmon and Jack Barton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Jennings Jones. The family wishes to express their deep appreciation for the care Mrs. Jones received during her stay at Palmetto Health Richland. The compassionate and patient explanations to Robin made all the difference during this time.
