Born in Parkersburg, West Virginia in 1924, Anna Forbis lived a life filled with laughter, love and songs. She left home at a young age to live and work in Washington, DC at the beginning of WWII. From there she traveled to Iowa to earn a nursing degree and then moved to Chicago to pursue a post-graduate degree in obstetrics. There she began a lifelong interest in public health, specifically women’s health issues. While in Chicago, she met and married William Forbis, who passed in 2012. His career with Proctor & Gamble ultimately took them to Cincinnati, OH where they raised their three children, Pat, Jeff and Gayle. Anna was always involved, whether it be volunteering at Planned Parenthood, the Junior League or her children’s schools. Music and theater were a large part of her life and she often performed in local theater and sang with many choirs. Anna used her skills as a certified Healing Touch practitioner to bring pain relief and comfort to many. Anna was an avid traveler who journeyed around the world as a photographer, a birder or a tourist. Her adventurous spirit led her to try exciting, new activities including training to be a glider pilot, hiking the Milford Track in New Zealand, riding a mule into the Grand Canyon, shooting the rapids in Costa Rica, just to name a few. Her sense of humor and love of life were cherished by her children, her sons-in-law, Joel Duncan and Todd Hager and her granddaughter, Riley Hager and her many, many friends. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Planned Parenthood South Atlantic, 100 South Boylan Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27603.
