COLUMBIA - Barbara Summers Siokos passed away to the loving arms of Jesus on Friday, July 23, 2021, in Columbia, S.C. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 29, 2021, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, with burial in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 28, 2021, with Trisagion prayers at 7:30 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
Barbara was born August 19, 1931, in Chapin, S.C. She was a daughter of the late Ollie B. Summers and Katie Haltiwanger Summers. She is survived by daughters, Katherine "Katie" Chigges and Vivi Chigges Kidd, and as a son to her, John A. Chigges; sisters, Sybil Cousins, Betty Westwood, Sandra Bryan and Celia Cantrell; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was "YiaYia" to Cody J. Martin, Nicholas Chigges (Rachel) and "great YiaYia" to Mason, Olivia and Emma Grace Chigges. She was predeceased by her husband, Constantine J. "Deno" Siokos; brother, Bill Summers; and sister, Harriet Summers
Barbara was a retired Southern Bell employee, an avid gardener, professional seamstress, ceramics decorator and talented artisan. She was well known for her creations of St. Nicholas statues, Christmas Carolers and Nativity scenes. Her luggage ensembles and purses sold in stores throughout South Carolina. She enjoyed travel, which included many exciting destinations with her late husband "Deno" and friends. Barbara devoted 60 years of service to her beloved Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, including The Ladies Philoptochos Society community service organization Greek bake sales and the annual Greek Festival. She also supported the charity Sister Care of Columbia.
Her family and friends will always carry her loving memory in our hearts. The family expresses thanks to the loyal support of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral where she was a member for over sixty years. Special thanks to the staff of Caris Healthcare and caregiver, Laura Reeder, for their love and dedicated care.
