

Betty Jean "BJ" Brodeur, aged 89, of Hilton Head, SC, passed away on November 8, 2024. Born on November 20, 1934, in Homosassa Springs, Florida, she was the cherished daughter of Lee and Era Knight. Betty Jean dedicated her career to the service of others, graduating as a Registered Nurse from St. Francis Xavier Hospital School of Nursing in Charleston, SC. She found her calling in the specialty area of psychiatric nursing.
In 1960, she married James Vincent Brodeur Sr., with whom she shared a beautiful marriage of 58 years until his passing. Her gentle, caring nature left an unforgettable mark on all who had the pleasure of meeting her, and her faith in God was a steadfast pillar of her life. Betty Jean was known for her love of crossword puzzles and her remarkable talent in crocheting. Many were blessed to receive one of her handmade hats or shawls, which she crafted with warmth and love.
She was predeceased by her husband, James Vincent Brodeur Sr.; her sister, Mary Garrett; and her brother, Lee Knight Jr. Betty Jean is survived by her beloved children, daughter Leiza Brock (Reuben) of Hilton Head, SC, son Jim Brodeur Jr. (Faye) of Columbia, SC, and sister Voncile Steuer of Black Mountain, NC, as well as numerous extended family members.
The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at The Pines of Hilton Head for their devoted care over the last four years and to Agape Hospice for their compassionate support in the last four months.
A memorial Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Columbia on Monday, November 18th at 10:00 am, with inurnment to follow in the church columbarium with family receiving friends and loved ones afterward.
