Mrs. Betty Jo Canon Craft went home to her Lord in Glory on Thursday, November 25, 2021. Born April 8, 1922 in Maryville, Missouri, the daughter of the late Leon Joshua Canon and Harriett Elva Morton Canon. She was married to Ira Quitman Craft for 57 years, who pre-deceased her in death.
Betty Jo was an active member of First Baptist Church in Columbia, South Carolina, and served the Lord her God with all her heart in every capacity of her life. At First Baptist Church, she was involved in Prayer Ministry, International Ministry, her Sunday School Class, and Senior Adult Choir. She was involved with lay renewals all over the world. With her husband Ira Craft, she was instrumental in creating the Cecil B. Day Foundation with Cecil and Dean Day, which was responsible for planting hundreds of churches across New England preaching the Gospel. Betty Jo was a Trustee at North Greenville College, Board member of the Lord’s Day Alliance, had a long relationship with the Baptist World Alliance and received an Honorary Doctorate at Dallas Baptist University.
This wonderful child of God was preceded in death by her sister, Phyllis Pauls; sister, Janice Cornett and brother Leon Edward “Bud” Canon. Betty Jo is survived by her sister, Carolyn Koffman, of Moberly, MO; Jack Canon, of Peake, SC; Suellyn Smith of Oklahoma City, OK; many nieces/nephews, great-nieces/nephews, great-great nieces/nephews, family and friends.
Betty Jo was beloved by all who knew her, the best sister, aunt and friend anyone could ever have. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Celebration of Life will be held at First Baptist Church, Columbia at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 29, with visitation following in Ellis Hall. Interment at 1:00 p.m. in Elmwood Cemetery.
