Carole was the first of four children born to the late Edward Clement Dew and the late Marian McClam Dew of Sumter. Carole attended the University of South Carolina in Columbia and earned her B.A. and Master in Education. While attending school in Columbia, she met the love of her life, Andy, at a local deli. The couple moved to Ft. Lauderdale, FL, where they were married, and Carole taught at the Florida Air Academy. Carole and Andy later returned to Columbia, where she began teaching at Hillcrest High School in Dalzell and then at Dent Middle School. Carole and Andy eventually opened Andy's Deli, a second home to their family and Carole's favorite place to be.
Carole's family was her greatest pride and joy, and she loved bragging about them to anyone that would listen. A friend to everyone, you could find Carole at the deli daily, brightening the lives of those she knew and met with a funny story or by lending a compassionate ear. A teacher for life, Carole would tutor her children's classmates after school at Rosewood Elementary. She loved swimming at The Drew Wellness Center, then heading to The Other Store with her friends, where they would laugh, talk about life, and enjoy the best cake in town.
She is survived by her sons, Andrew Adnan "Andy" Shlon (Sarah Lempesis) and Adam Adnan Shlon (Diana Roberts) of Columbia; three grandchildren, Andrew, Braiden, and Emily; siblings, Michael Edward "Mike" Dew (Pat) of Charleston, and Sandy Dew Hyatt of Columbia; and brother-in-law, Kamal Shlon (Gail) of Columbia.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Adnan Addada "Andy" Shlon; sister, Cheryl Dew Laney of Dalzell; and brother-in-law, Phil Hyatt of Columbia.
