Steve passed from this earthly life on Wednesday, December 31, 2025. Steve was born in the Pelham community of Greer, South Carolina, to Charles William Davis, Jr. and Mildred Kirkham Davis. At the time of his birth, the family lived with his Davis grandparents. From an early age, Steve was known for his steady nature, quiet kindness, and loyalty to those he loved. He spent his childhood in the Greer community alongside two lifelong best friends. All three attended school together for twelve years and graduated from Greer High School.
Steve attended the University of South Carolina, where he served in the ROTC and earned a degree in Business. He carried himself with a strong sense of duty and responsibility, values that guided him throughout his life. Upon graduation, he entered the United States Air Force as a Captain and served honorably for four years while stationed in Duluth, Minnesota.
After completing his military service, Steve returned to the University of South Carolina to earn his master’s degree. He later moved to Greenville, where he worked for Watkins Motor Lines and Potter Shackelford Construction. Eventually, he returned to Columbia to work with a former college suite mate, Edward Markendorff—relationships Steve valued and maintained throughout his life. He continued his professional career in accounting with the South Carolina State Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC), where he served as Director of EQC, earning the respect of colleagues through his integrity, diligence, and thoughtful leadership.
In addition to his public service, Steve was deeply proud of his work providing tax services to individuals and businesses for more than 50 years. In July of 1973, he incorporated his business, Tax Investment Enterprises, Inc. Steve was known not only for his expertise, but for his personal care and genuine concern for each client. Many came to rely on him not just as a trusted accountant, but as someone who listened, encouraged, and took a sincere interest in their lives.
Steve was a devoted husband, father, and friend. He cherished his family and found great joy in being present, dependable, and supportive. Those who knew him best remember his calm presence, his thoughtful conversations, and his quiet humor.
Steve was a member of Greenlawn Baptist Church.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon White Davis, and his son, Charles (Chuck) William Davis III, of Columbia, South Carolina. He is also survived by eleven first cousins, many cherished clients, wonderful neighbors and friends, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and nieces and nephews—each of whom carries forward memories of Steve.
