

COLUMBIA - Christine Marks Spicer was born on November 23, 1973 and passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2023. Born in Singen, Germany, she was the daughter of Peter Jurgen Marks and Marliese Martha Masser Jost. Christine graduated from Clemson University and worked for many years in the Prisma Health Hospital System, most recently as a Research Coordinator in Clinical Trials.
Surviving are her husband of 22 years, Rich Spicer; her beloved children, Ellie and Matthew Spicer; her brother and his family, Jay, Elizabeth and Carson Marks; her parents, Peter and Briggitte Marks, and Marliese and Fritz Jost; mother-in-law, June Spicer; close family friends, Diane Marks and Joe Harmon; and her treasured pets, Mia, Cayenne, Pepper, Annie, and Babel.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Samantha Grace.
Christine was a childhood cancer survivor who moved to the United States while in high school. She attended Wando High School before enrolling at Clemson University, where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. In her professional life, Christine built a career managing regulatory, research and clinical trial divisions in Columbia and Chicago health systems. At the time of her death, Christine was excited to be nearing completion of all requirements for dual US/German citizenship.
Christine had a quiet, kind and gentle spirit who loved traveling, exploring and spending time with her family. She was a devoted mother who was always so proud of her children’s sports, music and artistic achievements. Christine had a heart for animals and she rescued countless dogs and cats over the years, most of whom made a lifelong home with the Spicer family. She loved combing beaches for sharks’ teeth and unique shells, collecting pottery, and attending concerts and hearing new bands. She loved great food (especially pasta) and red wine.
Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Christine’s life from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. In addition, all are welcome to continue celebrating Christine’s life at Steel Hands Brewing, 2350 Foreman Drive Cayce, SC following the funeral home visitation from 5:00-8:00pm.
