Claire Muriel Levinson Meltzer, born February 22, 1930, in Charleston, South Carolina, to Alexander and Rose Toporek Levinson, passed away peacefully in her sleep after joyfully welcoming in the New Year of 2026.
Claire lived a full and vibrant life, first as a devoted mother to her beloved sons, Mark (wife Lynn) and Steven ( wife Susan )Rossow, and later as the cherished wife of Herbert Meltzer, with whom she shared 20 wonderful years filled with travel and adventure.
She took great pride in her family—her sons, grandchildren, and cousins—who were always at the center of her heart. In her later years, Claire found deep friendship and community within her synagogue, on the golf course, and most recently at Rice Estates, where she spent her last three years surrounded by those who adored her. Her warmth, humor, and love for life will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A graveside service will be held on January 4, 2026, at 3:00 pm at Hebrew Benevolent Cemetery, located at 720 Blanding St, Columbia, South Carolina, 29201.
