
WEST COLUMBIA - A graveside service with full military honors for Lt. Col. Claude Whitfield Lott Jr. (U.S. Army, Ret.), 94, will be held at 9:00 a.m. Friday, July 10, 2026 in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family. There will no reception after.
Lt. Col. Lott died Saturday, July 4, 2026. Born in Kershaw, S.C., he was the son of the late Claude Whitfield Lott Sr. and Grace Hammond Lott. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and in Vietnam as an aviator. He was a member of St. Martins-in-the Fields Episcopal Church.
Lt. Col. Lott served two tours in Vietnam as executive officer and commanding officer flying for the 1st Air Cavalry Division. During his tours, he earned the Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star with 2 oak leaf clusters, and the Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Gold Star, among others. He was also a rotary wing instructor and Army Master Aviator.
His memberships included Quiet Birdmen, Experimental Aircraft Association 242 Chapter at Hamilton Owens Field, S.C. Helicopter Association, 641 Veterans of Foreign Wars of USA, American Bonanza Society, 0172 The American Legion, and the Beechcraft Society
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Boylston Lott; sons, Claude W. Lott III, Alan Lott; daughter, Vicki Schumpert; four grandchildren; and his brother Glen Lott.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son in law Frank Schumpert.
The family wishes to thank the staff and caretakers at Still Hopes Episcopal Retirement Community and the staff and caretakers of Prisma Hospice Care.
