Cynthia Rickie Hegler Daniels

COLUMBIA - Funeral services for Cynthia Rickie Hegler Daniels, 79, will be conducted at 10:30 am, Friday, September 20, 2024 at Dunbar Funeral Home, 3926 Devine St, Columbia, SC. Private interment will follow at the Fort Jackson National Cemetery. Prior to the service, the family will receive friends from 9:15-10:15 am at the funeral home.

Rickie died Friday, September 13, 2024. Born in Lancaster, SC on December 10, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Wade Hampton "Hamp" and Margaret Ellen Steele Hegler. She was married to Jerald "Jerry” Daniels for over 57 years and they had 2 children: Jerald “Jay” Daniels, Jr. and Dana Ellen James (Rob). She is survived by her husband Jerry and son Jay, and daughter Dana and 4 grandchildren: Kit Daniels and Autumn Daniels Greene (Logan); Lilly and Emma James; and 2 nephews Dale and Damon Hegler. She was preceded in death by her parents and an only brother, Wade Hampton Hegler, Jr.

Rickie graduated from Buford High School, Lancaster, SC. She received a B.S. Degree in Biology and an Education Degree from Newberry College. She stayed home to raise her children then started her teaching career at Lexington, Richland School District 5, where she taught for 11 years. One of the highlights of her teaching career was she was the first to have a winning State Science Olymphiad Team at her school. She loved the Lord and was a member of the First Baptist Church, Columbia. She participated in numerous church functions to include leading the Home Bound Ministry.

Rickie had many interest in her life. She participated in Martial Arts, water aerobics, Bible Study, and other activities.

Rickie and Jerry enjoyed traveling and camping high in the mountains. They visited many countries and made friends easily.
