Daisy B. Grzegorek-Misale, widow of S.M.S Stephen S. Grzegorek Sr. (retired army) and S.F.C. Carmelo J. Misale (retired army) transitioned to her Heavenly home on July 4, 2024. She was the daughter of the late Herman Kitrell Sr. and the late Minnie Darnell Kitrell.
Daisy was a stay-at-home mom who continually turned her backyard into the neighborhood playground. She began her many years of volunteer work in 1964 and continued through 2013. She served as a girl scout leader, a cub scout den mother, and a chaperone for her children's many school field trips. She was a past PTA president. She was a charter member of Greater Woodfield Community Association, where she was past treasurer and chairman of social events.
She was a member of her beloved Woodfietd Park Baptist Church, where through the years she held numerous positions such as chairman of the bereavement committee, women on missions treasurer, church personnel committee member, and Sunday greeter.
Daisy was a life member of the VFW auxiliary, post 641, where she also served as president for 3 years. She earned the distinguished honor of Dept. of SC Outstanding VFW President for the 2000-2001 auxiliary year. Daisy volunteered at Dorn VA Medical Center for 20 years. She served as hospital V.A.V.S representative through her lady's auxiliary for many years. She was head of recruiting new volunteers for the hospital. And was affectionately known by hospital staff and fellow volunteers as Miss Daisy.
Among Daisy's many honors were being presented a citation in appreciation for outstanding dedicated service as a Veteran's administration Hospital representative for more than 10 years. And her greatest volunteer achievement came when she won the Dept. of SC Hospital Volunteer of the Year for 2012-2013.
Daisy is survived by all 4 of her children, Debra (Ritch) Byrd, Stephen Jr. (Brenda) Grzegorek, Paula (Ronnie) Blizzard, and Mark Douglas Grzegorek, granddaughters Amanda Harris, Jennifer Tonhauser, and Hope Young, grandsons Patrick (Melissa) Blizzard, Thomas Jr. (Anemone) Byrd, Brandon Blizzard, and 9 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her beloved niece Brenda Spires, and brother-in-law Mike Misale.
Most of all she will be remembered as a caring and beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the Three Oaks Hospice staff for the compassionate care they provided for Mrs. Misale in her final earthly days.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 11, 2024 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with burial in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. The pallbearers for the service will be Patrick Blizzard, Thomas Byrd Jr., Brandon Blizzard, Kevin Link, Ray Link, and Timothy Blizzard.
