

Dan Charles Vismor, 90, of Columbia, S.C. passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2026. He was the son of the late Dan and Ruth Vismor. He was predeceased by his brother, Doyle Vismor and his son, Dan Charles Vismor III and is survived by his sisters, Katie Puckett (Barry), and Jerry Lay. Surviving are his wife, Barbara Vismor; daughter, Jan Frierson (Bobby); grandchildren, Meghan Cabell (Will), Justin Frierson (Anna), Taylor Vismor; and five great-grandchildren.
He was a native of Atlanta, but has resided in South Carolina since 1965. He was a member of Shandon United Methodist Church, and the St Andrews Rotary Club. He graduated from East Carolina University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and a Master’s degree in City Planning from Georgia Tech. He was active in the American Planning Association (APA) since its formation in 1968 and served as the president of the South Carolina Chapter. He was also a charter member of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), was former Chairman of Richland County Planning Commission, has lectured on planning, and presented “expert testimony” in court cases. In 2000, he received the Distinguished Planner award from the South Carolina Chapter of the American Institute of Planners. He was the founding president of Vismor, McGill and Bell, Inc., a planning and marketing firm providing planning assistance throughout South Carolina and much of the Southeast since 1969. Prior to chartering VMB he served four years with the South Carolina State Development Board, two years as Chief Planner with the Western North Carolina Regional Planning Commission, and two years interning with the City of Atlanta.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at Shandon United Methodist Church with visitation following.
