COLUMBIA - David “Swing” Starring Meyer, 78, passed away on Monday, September 26, 2016, at Providence Hospital following a brief battle with cancer, surrounded by family. Swing graduated from St. Paul’s School in Concord, New Hampshire, and then Yale, class of 1960. Swing’s career ranged from service in the U.S. Army National Guard to public relations and the authorship of several books, including “The Winning Candidate” published by Doubleday, and “The Method,” the first sentence of which reads, “The entire game of golf is played in the six inches between your ears" as well as many other instruction books and videos. He leaves his loving wife of fifty years, Caroline Finlay Meyer; two sons, Austin and Edward Meyer of Columbia; daughter-in-law, Melanie Meyer; wonderful granddaughter, Ava Meyer; brother, Senator Edward Meyer (Patty Ann) of Guilford, Connecticut, who was very supportive and set the standard for excellence; and many outstanding nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Kirkman Meyer. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 1100 Sumter Street, Columbia, SC 29201.
