David Stuart Schupp

David Stuart Schupp, age 77, of Leesville, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2026, at Seven Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Columbia, South Carolina, following complications related to cancer and dementia.

Born on January 5, 1949, in St. Clair, Missouri, David was the son of Henry Martin Peter Schupp and Edna Anna Jones Schupp. He was raised on the family farm as the sixth of six children, though two of his siblings passed away in childhood. David was confirmed at St. John's United Church of Christ in St. Clair, Missouri, where his family were long-time members.

During his years at St. Clair High School, David excelled academically and earned induction into the National Honor Society. Making the occasion especially meaningful, his older sister Bonnie, who was serving as National Honor Society President, presented him with his NHS pin during the induction ceremony. He later graduated from Southeast Missouri State College in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and continued his education attending graduate school at University of Missouri – Columbia.

David lived an independent life, defined by dedication to his work. He began his professional career as an educator, teaching in Hayti, Missouri. Later, he relocated to Kansas City, where he embarked on a second career in the railroad industry, working in the sales department at Harsco Rail. Eventually, David relocated to Columbia, South Carolina, where he retired from Harsco, and spent many years enjoying his retirement with activities such as baking peach pies and playing in a tennis league.

Though he never married, David remained connected to his family and held a special place in the lives of those who knew him. He is remembered by his nephew, Jeffrey Stuart Armstrong, son of David’s sister Bonnie Armstrong, who assisted with his care and final arrangements. He is also remembered by his nieces, Christine Ford Hernandez and Michelle Ford Alt, daughters of his sister Gloria Ford.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Edna Schupp; his sisters, Gloria Ford, Sue Cummins, and Bonnie Armstrong.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation arrangements were entrusted to Dunbar Crematory Services in Columbia, South Carolina.

David will be remembered for his academic accomplishments, steadfast character, strong work ethic, and the quiet influence he had on family, friends, and colleagues throughout his life.
