David was born January 10, 1951 in Hazelhurst, Ga. to Wilbur and Beverly Berryhill Williams. As a child, he spent much of his time with cousins and family making memories on his Aunt’s farm. His family also spent time in Germany where he developed an interest in model building.

A 1969 graduate of Dentsville High School, he went on to marry Judy Horton in 1973 and later began a career selling Life Insurance. Over the course of his life, he was a Chartered Financial Consultant and Life Underwriter, representing companies such as Prudential, Liberty Life, John Hancock, Jefferson Pilot Financial, Dempsey, American Capital Corporation, and Manulife Financial. David was a dedicated member of Shandon Baptist Church for over 40 years where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was passionate about studying the Word and helping others interpret God’s scripture. David was blessed with a green thumb and loved creating a beautiful yard for others to enjoy. He will be remembered as an honest, fair, dependable man but most importantly, a devoted father who provided well for his family. He filled the home with love, laughter, stability, and pets; all centered on the Lord.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Judy Williams. Those left to cherish his memories include his children, Jimmy Williams and Christy Thomas (Jonathan); siblings, Susan Hudson, Mollie Branham (Moses), Billy Williams (Teresa) and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the Abundantly Blessed Sunday School Class for years of friendship and fellowship.

Flowers are greatly appreciated and memorial contributions may be made in his honor to Amedisys Hospice or to Pawmetto Lifeline.

I first met David in the late seventies at a Navigators Bible Memory course that was being held at Columbia Bible College. During this course we became friends. We then reconnected later at a Christian Business Men's Committee Bible Study that we both enjoyed for many years.
I remember one time David and I were discussing how our Bible Scripture memories were progressing.
I had memorized about twenty Scriptures and thought I was doing well. When I asked David how he was coming, to my amazement, he related that he had memorized James, 1st and 2nd Peter and Romans. I asked him which scriptures in each and he said, ALL of them and he was starting on some new epistles to memorize.
Our Bible study had a picnic for our wives and our leader asked David to recite 1st Peter at the picnic and to dress like Peter. David agreed and he asked me to sit close to him and be his proof reader. It was a beautiful day for a picnic and we all sat in sheer joy as David perfectly recited, in a conversational voice, 1st Peter. I felt like I was actually sitting at Peter's feet listening to him preach. We called David, Peter, after the picnic.
When we were leaving, all of us told David how proud of him we were and he humbly said he knew others who had memorized most of the New Testament.
David and I remained friends for the rest of his life and he was always a mentor to me and many others. It was refreshing to have such a Godly man as a friend. David not only knew the Bible, it was his love and he lived it.
I rejoice that we shall see him again!

Christy and Jimmy,

We were so sorry to learn of David’s passing. David and Judy were very special friends. They are experiencing Heaven now and we are assured that their pain and suffering has been replaced with unspeakable joy. We know they were very proud of you. Your love for them was shown as you sacrificed your own plans to care for them. We are praying for you and your family during this stressful time.

David was a good husband and father and a strong Christian. He was a faithful Sunday School teacher for over twenty years and his study of God’s word was an example to all. He will be missed.
