
COLUMBIA - Diane Gunter Russell, age 72, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family and friends on Monday, August 15, 2016 of lung cancer and pulmonary fibrosis. Diane was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on May 13, 1944, the daughter of the late Francis Clyde and Mary Alyne (Booth) Gunter. Diane graduated from Ramona High School in Riverside, California. She lived and worked in Riverside until 1963 when she moved to Sumter, South Carolina and began working as an administrative secretary for the civil service. Later, she received training and worked as a computer programmer/analyst at Fort Jackson until she retired. Diane spent her retirement years enjoying life along with her pet dogs and cats. Diane had a passion for animal rescue and protection and was an avid fan of NASCAR racing (Jeff Gordon). She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, watching and attending NASCAR races, shopping, taking cruises, crocheting, and her York Peppermint Patties. Diane had a fun, loving personality. She was richly loved and will be dearly missed. Diane was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her sister Rose Soorus (Armas). Diane’s wishes were that a small celebration of her life be held by close family and friends.
