COLUMBIA - A graveside service for Miss Dollie Walker Townsend, 90, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2014, in Elmwood Cemetery and Gardens. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family. Miss Townsend passed away Saturday, September 13, 2014. Born in Columbia on May 6, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Fred DuPre Townsend and Dollie Walker Townsend. She graduated from Dreher High School and attended Winthrop College before graduating from Hamlet Hospital Training School for Nurses in Hamlet, N.C. She began her career as a registered nurse at Columbia Hospital, now Palmetto Health Richland, before retiring from Crafts Farrow State Hospital. Surviving are brother, Fred DuPre Townsend, Jr.; sister-in-law, Patricia Raley Townsend; four nephews; and three nieces. She was predeceased by her brother, William Howard Townsend; sister, Sara LuTelle Townsend Hester; one nephew and one niece.
