Donald O Knox

COLUMBIA - A graveside service for Donald Odell Knox, 79, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 25, 2021 in Olympia Cemetery. Health and safety is of utmost importance during these difficult times of COVID-19. All services will have a strict social distancing and mandatory mask policy. For those who choose to attend, thank you for your extra vigilance and thinking of others when practicing safety protocols. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.

Mr. Knox died Sunday, February 21, 2021. Born in Columbia, he was a son of the late Jack Harold and Dorothy Martin Knox. He graduated from Olympia High School where he played football, basketball and baseball. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Saratoga aircraft carrier. He was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, serving numerous times on church council and leading the Lutheran Men’s prayer breakfast. He retired from CSX Railroad as a yardmaster.

Surviving are his aunts, Shirley Knox, Martha Hucks, Martha Knox; a niece and nephew; numerous cousins and many friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Ardelia Hughes Knox and a daughter, Donna Leigh Knox.

Memorials may be made to St. Luke Lutheran Church, 1127 Olympia Avenue, Columbia, SC 29201 or a charity of one’s choice.

I remember Donald , when we worked together at the Railroad.
I will miss him. I also remember him playing Football at Olympia High
School. He was a good Athlete. I will keep the Family in my prayers.

I remember Donald from school and from church.
He was one of the nicest guys that I ever knew. I am sure he will be missed by so many.
