

COLUMBIA - Doris Pauline Dixon Cheek, 87, passed away peacefully Friday, July 4, 2025, at NHC Lexington. Born on December 8, 1937, in Great Falls, S.C., she was the daughter of Bert Alexander Dixon and Pauline Wilson Dixon.
Doris graduated from Great Falls High School and later received her BS degree in Business and Economics from Winthrop College. In 1957, she moved to Columbia, accepting a job with SCE&G (SCANA) where she worked for 43 years until her retirement. Upon her retirement, Doris enjoyed traveling, reading and working in her yard. Also, she enjoyed volunteering at Harvest Hope Food Bank.
Doris was a member of Zonta International and a long-time member of North Trenholm Baptist Church. She was known for her wonderful sense of humor and fierce independence. She lived alone in her house which she adored until her death. She went to the gym multiple times a week which usually included a trip to Talbots on the way home. She was very proud of never missing her hair appointments. She greatly loved her Trenholm Road community.
She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, William Bingham Cheek III. She is survived by her two children, Anne Courtney Cheek Bailey (Timothy) and William Bingham Cheek IV (Kelly) and her five beloved grandchildren, William Dixon Bailey, Courtney Alexander Bailey, Anna Wallace Cheek, Elizabeth Pinkney Cheek and Thomas Alexander Cheek. Doris is also survived by her sister, Sara Dixon Capps and her brother, Bert Alexander Dixon Jr. (Karen Taylor) and her nieces and nephews.
