Born in Charleston, she received her education at the University of South Carolina and George Washington University. She taught for many years at Palmer College in Charleston and Columbia. Mrs. Liles served as secretary to the late Dr. Guy L. Varn, superintendent of the Columbia city schools and as a consultant for State Personnel. She was a past president of the Charleston Rotary Auxiliary, the Columbia Mimosa Garden Club and the Alpha Zeta Sorority. She was a past member of the Charleston Garden Club, the Charleston League of Women Voters and served on the board of the Greenville Humane Society. She was a member of the WildeWood Garden Club, the WildeWood Women's Club and a life member of the Columbia Symphony League and Columbia Green. She was a member of the Northeast Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are her nieces, Mrs. John Farmer (Babs) and Mrs. Greg Schneider (Charlene); nephew, Grayson Meetze, Jr.; and several great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and only brother, 1st Lt. Charles Nauful, who was killed in Normandy on D-Day, and her sisters, Mrs. Grayson Meetze (Louise) and Mrs. James A. Barefoot (Frances).
