Miss Dorothy Jeanne Mitchell

COLUMBIA Dorothy Jeanne Mitchell passed away on September 26, 2015, after battling cancer for several months. Dorothy Jeanne Mitchell was the daughter of Col. John R. and Christine Mitchell of Columbia, S.C., who both had preceded her in death. She was raised in Alexandria, Va. and was a graduate of Fort Hunt High School. Dorothy Jeanne was also a graduate of the University of South Carolina, majoring in English. Jeanne worked at Midlands Technical College for forty years where she made many friends. She would like to thank them for their generous support and prayers during her illness. Jeanne was an avid supporter of the Riverbanks Zoo and Gardens and the South Carolina Museum for many years. She is survived by her brother, John, from Plano, Texas who was very supportive and a great friend during her illness. Dorothy Jeanne is also survived by two nieces, Jennifer Boyette Mitchell of Columbus, Ohio, Leslie Mitchell Hill of Plano, Texas, a great-nephew, Jake Riley Hill and a great-niece, Kate Elizabeth Hill of Plano, Texas. Jeanne will be laid to rest at Restland Cemetery, Dallas,Texas. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, Jeanne requested donations be sent to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210.
