My name is Joseph Salvo. I was fortunate to receive care from Dr. McIver at Moffitt Cancer Center in Florida. I have never experienced such a caring, knowledgeable professional. I am saddened at his passing, not only for his family and the patients he served but for his wealth of knowledge in Thyroid cancer. God Bless.

Like many others on here I was devastated to hear of Dr. McIver's passing. I too had found Dr. McIver at the Mayo Clinic when I had a recurrence of thyroid cancer, then followed him to Moffet and then spoke with him after he moved to Midland and had every intention of following him there as well.

His voice, his calm demeanor, his intelligence, and his passion and knowledge around thyroid cancer were of great comfort to me during difficult, anxiety-causing times.

I will truly miss Dr. McIver as a doctor and a person. The world was so much better because he was in it.

I am VERY sorry for your loss of Dr. McIver, I had my thyroid removed due to cancer & was passed around from Dr to Dr, I had no clue what I was doing. 1 Dr @ Mayo said 'we have a Dr here who is a thyroid cancer specialist & he has agreed to see you tomorrow.
That's how I met Dr. McIver, the cancer showed up again, I had appts & he had me checked for everything. I learned so much from him & will always be eternally grateful.
Rest In Peace Dr. McIver

I have no words to describe how I felt about this wonderful man. He was my doctor at Mayo Clinic and after losing him there I struggled for 2 years with other doctors. Then I decided to google his name and was thrilled to find him at Moffitt Cancer center. When I lost him again it was very difficult but knowing he had hand picked someone for me was comforting. I trusted him completely. As my numbers have started to climb again, I just felt I had to try again to find him. That is when I found this devastating news. I say all of this not to bring you pain, but for you to know what he meant to all of those he cared for! I am so thankful for all of the years he was my doctor and the hard work and dedication that I’m sure has advanced the care I will receive in the future. Thank you for sharing him with all of us! You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I am so saddened to hear of Dr. McIver's passing. He was my doctor at the Moffitt Cancer Center. He was an answer to my prayers during my cancer journey. He was not just an expert in his field, he was also supportive and kind. I'm praying for God to give bring his family comfort during this time.

I first met Bryan McIver in the Summer of 2023. I read about his coming to South Carolina and Prisma Health in Columbia. I noticed that he was from Scotland.
I had lived in Exeter, England as a Fellow at the University of Exeter. While there, my wife Kathy and I had visited Edinburgh and roamed around the beautiful country of Scotland.
I wrote Bryan a message and we met and talked in his office for several hours, talking about Scotland and England and our adventures in the health care industry. He had such a new perspective on hospitals in America. And I told him that I wanted him to speak to medical students at the USC School of Medicine in Columbia. He wholeheartedly looked forward to telling them about his medical school days and how he viewed the US health system and the health service in Scotland.
His perspective on health and heath care gave a new perspective, one that would have helped America prevent illness, disease, injury and premature death -- reducing the need for drugs, surgery, and hospitals. We will remember what he has told us.

I am terribly sorry to learn of Dr McIver's passing. I met him many years ago when he became affiliated with Thyca and was still working at Mayo clinic. He was generous with his time and advice to many of us who were struggling to decided what management decisions we should pursue. Although never officially a "patient" of his, he was willing to advise and consult freely. One day about 10 years ago, he spent a full hour (on his personal phone), explaining and reassuring me of medical choices made. I am very grateful for the generous sharing of his time, his kindness, and his expertise to all of us in the Thyca community. May he rest in peace.

My deepest condolences to Heidi and the entire McIver family. Bryan was a true gentleman, always kind and considerate, ever positive and hopeful in his views and efforts. He made everyone around him better for knowing him and I, among many, will miss him.

I had the fortune of meeting Bryan McIver in May 2000 at Mayo Clinic. I was an intensive care nurse in northern Minnesota recently diagnosed with Hurtle Cell carcinoma. I couldn’t find any information about it so went on the Mayo site and found Dr Eberhardt who had identified my tumor type and I sent him a message. He in turn gave my message to Dr McIver who sent me letter in the mail inviting me to be a patient of his and for the next 12 years he was my endocrinologist at Mayo! He always reassured me that I would be fine and several years later identified another rare endocrine disorder I have. I saw him several times down at Moffit, the last being Feb. 2020. He had a soft spot for nurses as a nurse at Mayo saved his life. He spoke of us as “angels in human form!” Anyway, I am so sad to learn of his death. When I saw him last he was getting remarried and I asked him when he would retire and he said NEVER! He made a difference in this world and I will forget him !

I first met Dr. McIver as a patient at Mayo Clinic in 2011. At 17 years of age, a diagnosis of thyroid cancer was both daunting and terrifying. Dr. McIver spent hours with my parents and me— explaining my diagnosis and the next steps in my care. His bedside manner instantly put us at ease. He called me after working hours the night before my surgery to encourage me that everything would be okay. He reassured me that I would go on to “live a long, happy life and come stomping on his grave one day.”

As a physician now, I can only strive to be everything that this man was to his patients. He was truly one of a kind. He left this world a far better place. I will be moving back home to Columbia this year and was looking forward to being Dr. McIver’s patient once again at Prisma. Heartbroken over this news. My thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones ❤️

Sending our condolences to Dr McGyver’s family and community. He was an extraordinary oncologist and human being who will be remembered for his passion for people and giving his best. We are just heartbroken 💔.

My wife and I learned of Dr McIver’s passing today will visiting Moffitt and are heartbroken. To the family, Dr McIver was my wife’s initial Doctor at Moffitt. When diagnosed with tyroid cancer which metastasized in the brain, lungs, pancreas and kidney we were devastated and in fear of the future. Dr McIver gave us the trust and confidence to rely on him and his team. We thought 2 years max on this earth and now we are 9 years in. I remember him counseling us on how to keep living and he was right. We will miss this great human and amazing Doctor. So sorry for his loss and prayers for his family.

I met Dr. McIver at Moffitt in 2018. 33 years old and just diagnosed with thyroid cancer, he so calmly and assuredly guided me through multiple treatments, ups and downs, my pregnancy, and I was heart broken when he texted me his “new email address” at Prisma and realized he would no longer be my Dr. But he continued to correspond regarding my treatment and continued care and connected me with colleagues that could help me. I will never ever forget his kindness, his way of listening and making me feel heard and understood as a patient. And I know I am not the only patient he did that for.
Your family will be in my prayers. My heart aches for you and your loss. Dr. McIver was a true blessing in my life.

Dr. McIver saved my life. Although I only met with him a couple of times, since he left Moffitt soon after my thyroid cancer treatment started, he left an indelible impression on me. He was not only a brilliant doctor who gave me complete confidence in his care but he was also funny, charming and charismatic. During my second appointment he took my hands in his and told my case was so interesting that I was his favorite patient. That was almost a year ago and I was looking forward to letting him know how well I’m doing. Instead I’m writing this. I can’t believe my favorite doctor is no longer here. My sincere condolences to his family.

Heidi

Warm regards

I thoroughly enjoyed working with and learning from Dr. McIver when I was early in my career at Mayo Clinic. Dr. McIver was very dedicated and always looking out for the best interest of each of his patients. Heidi and family, my condolences to you.

Bryan was such a wonderful man with so many incredible talents. He was an amazing doctor, a genuine servant leader, and even better friend who always placed the needs of others as his top priority.
Bryan, THANK YOU for being such a wonderful role model for all of us. You, my friend, have for sure earned your new set of wings and I truly look forward to the day when we can fly together again.
Heidi, please know our prayers are with you and all in you family in this difficult time.

Meus sentimentos e solidariedade a família. 💐❤️‍🩹💡💫⭐️. Que Deus cubra de luz seu caminho até o céu.

As a Moffitt patient of Dr. Mc Iver I am shocked and saddened at his passing. He was a wonderful Dr. who helped me through my journey with medullary thyroid cancer. You could always feel his true empathy and caring. The medical community has lost a fine Dr. and the world a wonderful caring man. My prayers are with your family.
Lori Cullen

He was a great physician.
I was his patient and as a physician myself I can say with certainty that he was a doctor’s doctor.
He made sure that I received the correct surgery and follow up care for my thyroid cancer, and I was upset when he left Moffitt.
His untimely death is very tragic.
My wife and I will miss him and his great personality and knowledge.

I was so sad to hear about the passing of Dr. McIver. A quite brilliant human and a superb doctor. He inspired so many people and impacted the lives of countless patients. May he rest In peace. Please accept my sincere condolences. Paul Lynch, England

I want to send my heartfelt condolences to the McIver family. I didn’t know Dr. McIver for very long, but he had graciously just agreed to serve as a mentor to me. As a young physician trying to advance my career in thyroid cancer, I was so honored that Dr. McIver took time out of his busy schedule to meet with me and offer advice. He is someone I have always looked up to from afar, and to have had the chance to sit and talk with him was such a blessing. After reading this obituary and the many kind words shared from friends and patients, I’m sad I didn’t get the chance to know him better. What an amazing soul. I know though we are all mourning, he is at peace. Thank you Dr. McIver.

Matt Gorris, MD

It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart that I write this note to honour Dr. McIver. I first met him at Mayo Clinic in 2009 after a lengthy significant illness following a thyroid cancer diagnosis. At the time, I had run out of options as a physician looking for answers to the state in which I found myself. Expecting an esoteric diagnosis, I was overwhelmed with relief and gratitude when Dr. McIver sat with my husband and I for two and a half hours listening, integrating and explaining the diagnosis and inherent timeline to some semblance of normalcy. I felt so fortunate not only to have met such an incredible physician, but to have him bring his own personal history to bear in this clinical interaction. He had a huge impact on my life both medically and personally and for that I will be forever grateful. We stayed in contact through the years at Moffitt and I was intending to follow up at Prisma when I received the shocking news. I want to send my deep condolences to his family on their profound loss and let them know that a true kindness is never forgotten.
May his memory be a blessing.

Dr. McIver was one of a kind. He was so important to our thyroid cancer community and was always willing to help anyone in need. It is like losing a member of our family.
My condolences to your family.

Shocked and extremely sad to hear of Bryan's passing. He had been a friend and colleague since 1987 when we both worked on Wards 32/33 (the metabolic endocrine unit) at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. Our journeys in medicine followed similar paths through the Endocrine Department at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and the Thyroid research lab at the Mayo Clinic. Bryan was a true gentleman, an astute and caring clinician with a magnificent scientific mind. His contributions to the understanding of the molecular basis of thyroid tumors changed the clinical management of thyroid cancer forever. His presentations eloquently brought the frontier of research to clinical relevance. Even as a house officer, he was able to articulate every aspect of any patient's case history with clear reference to the scientific basis. Everyone who listened to Bryan always learned something new from him. He will be sorely missed as a friend, a colleague and the rare breed of a true endocrine clinician scientist.

To the family of Dr. Bryan McIver. I am terribly sorry for your loss, Dr. McIver was an amazing man and inspiration. I watched over his dog Penny for my dear friend Heidi, and Bryan always greeted me with a smile and small talk. He was so well spoken and you could tell how much he adored his family and his love for medicine which was amazing for me to be able to witness because I am hopeful to join the medical field some day. I mourn with you and for you all. May God walk you through this heartbreaking time, and your guardian angel watch over you always.

For the last 6 years I have visited Dr. McIver every year, from the Dominican Republic. To Dr. McIver's Family -

Dr. McIver was one of my providers at Moffitt, and he was genuinely a very special and caring person.

We met shortly after he landed at Moffitt, and he and my husband (who was present at my first appointment) formed an immediate bond because of my husband's Scottish ancestry and that Dr. McIver was from Scotland.

In later years, he managed the BMT department (where my husband is a patient), and then served on the Patient & Advisory Council, of which I was a member.

He was truly an approachable, empathetic, knowledgeable and skilled physician and a wonderfully kind human being I consider a friend.

I'm so sorry this all happened, and my thoughts of peace, as well as prayers, are with the family at this time.

Thinking of you,

Laura

Dr. McIver was always SO helpful when I contacted him with questions from my position as endocrinologist at the Alaska Native Medical Center. He provided advice for many Alaska Native patients who had thyroid cancer and even came to Anchorage for our thyroid cancer conference, a joint project with the Mayo Clinic. While here, he regaled us with stories about airplane adventures, a passion for many Alaskans. He was a wonderful resource for our Alaska Native population and a delightful person. His generosity, even taking time to help those in remote areas, was a gift to all of us. On behalf of the Alaska Native population, sending deepest condolences to Dr. McIver’s family and loved ones.

My sincere condolences 🙏🏽 to the family and friends.

I had the pleasure of doing my training at Mayo Clinic for 3 years and work with this amazing, brilliant mentor, scientist and human being. He was always kind and courteous.
May he Rest In Peace. Wishing his family peace and strength.🥲🙏

My deepest condolences to Bryan’s family and friends. I had the pleasure to work closely with Bryan while at Moffitt. What a great man. A true gentleman. He left us way too soon. Go rest high on the mountain Bryan. I will miss you but never forget you.

Braulio Vicente, Jr.

A tremendous loss to medical profession. So tragic and untimely. I have spent lot of time with Bryan in national and International meetings. He had asked to write recommendations for Tampa position and recently for PRISMA job. I was asked by the CEO , what is negative about Bryan and I could not answer. He promised me a champagne bottle, but left too early. I will miss him and we lost a brightest star of world Congress on thyroid cancer. Rest in Peace. Ashok Shaha

Dr. McIver was a brilliant, affable mentor with a great sense of humor. His mentorship during my research year at Mayo Clinic remains a most notable highlight of my medical education. The research year I didn't think I wanted, in fact turned out to be a standout year because of Dr. McIver. Once I completed fellowship, it was always a pleasure to run into him at national meetings. Despite his "rock star" status in the thyroid world, he always had time to say hello and catch up with me.
My sincerest condolences to his family.

My sincere condolences to all Dr. Bryan McIver's family. Bryan's departure is a lost for our physician community and especially for those affected by head/neck cancer (thyroid). He was an inspiration for many during his journey. You will be greatly missed. R.I.P. From The Santos Family.

My sincere condolences go out to Dr. McIver’s family. He was a remarkable person who touched many people with his kindness.

Bryan was everything you’d want in a man. Calm, intelligent, affable, approachable. There was a deep sense of knowledge in his eyes. I truly enjoyed the moments that he and Heidi would share with me, sitting on the patio with their puppy. I wish I had more time with him, as do many others. My kindest regards to Heidi and everyone in the clan. We will miss Bryan.

I am an endocrinologist lebanese in origin and Canadian by citizenship
I had the chance to attend meetings shared and organised by the late Dr Bryan
He always inspired me by his great knowledge his modesty and sense of humour
He will be deeply missed
My sincere condolences to his family
Truly a great loss
I will always miss his presence 😢

Dr. Bryan McIver,
First, I woke up to this sad, sad, news. Dr. McIver was hands down the one of the best doctors I've ever had. He was patient, kind, caring and very knowledgeable . He never rushed an office visit, he would always listen and explain everything in words a patient could understand. One day they were running behind at Moffit and I was the last appointment for the day. I thought they were going to cancel my appointment but nope, Dr. McIver stayed. When we got done with the appointment we realized the whole front office had already left. I couldn't even schedule my next appointment. That is the kind of doctor he was, wonderful. My husband and I trusted him 100%! We were very sad to see him leave Moffitt, it was never the same without him. I'm so sorry for the families lost. He loved his family very much. He will be missed. I've never cried over a doctor before, but today I did shed tears.

Dr. McIver saved my life...he was the most caring, compassionate doctor I have ever had. My heart is broken for his family and friends. Deepest condolences.

My prayers and sincerest condolences to all the family, loved ones, his Prisma Health colleagues and to all the many friends.

To Bryan’s family and colleagues …
Around 30 years ago I first saw Bryan at the Mayo Clinic. He helped me dismiss concerns for the thyroid cancer that I had been over treated for and focused on a pancreatic tumor that others had ignored. He became our primary care doctor and friend. For 30 years we followed him from Mayo to Moffit and were planning on seeing him at Prisma. It was always hard to explain to staff that yes he did do our annual physicals, treat the flu, and answers questions by texts, and have us to his home for dinner. It was just what everyone knows … the most caring doctor we’ve ever met and a dear dear fiend. We were a month apart in age and joked that we would grow old together. We lost a great man and a great friend.

Barry & Cheryl Crudup

I came to Dr. McIver while at Moffiitt when so many other doctors had failed me. Feeling hopeless and alone, Dr. McIver gave me peace and comfort. I trusted his opinion and he respected mine. We worked together to come up with a treatment plan for my thyroid cancer. I will never forget him. He was a wonderful and caring doctor. I am saddened and shocked to hear of his passing. My thoughts are with his family during this difficult time. 🙏🏽❤️

Dr. McIver was an extraordinary doctor and human. I was referred to him when my thyroid cancer had recurred for a third time at age 27. Although I know he had a packed schedule, he took so much time with my husband and I. He had a way of calming our fears, explaining everything in ways we could understand and feel confident about our future. And to me, most importantly, he was the only doctor who had EVER asked about how our marriage was doing. Going through a cancer diagnosis strains every part of your life, and Dr. McIver cared for us so much he wanted to make sure we had the support we needed in every way. I will never forget him and he's a big part of why I get to live the life (and still be happily married!) that I live. RIP and prayers for all of the family. He was a remarkable human being.

We had so many wonderful times with Heidi and Bryan. We loved him the moment we met him and will forever !!!

He was my doctor at Moffitt and saved my life when I went into a spiraling adrenal crisis. He always took the best care of me as a whole (not just thyroid cancer) and I will forever be grateful for his expertise and caring spirit. So sorry to lose him so young but know that his work will go on forever.

Sending prayers to the McIver family during this time of grief. May you be comforted by the fond and vast memories of the life he lived. My condolences.

Respectfully,
Pinkey Mack

Nuestras condolencias a la familia del doctor Mciver. Una gran see humano. Es una lamentable pérdida para la familia y todos los que los conocimos. En nombre mío y de mi esposa Gisel quien era su paciente. Que en paz descanse.

To Bryan's Family,

Please accept my deepest condolences for your incredible loss. I cannot imagine the pain you must all be feeling.

I had the privilege of working with Bryan at Moffitt Cancer Center. For several years, Bryan was the Interim Chair of our Blood and Marrow Transplant and Cellular Immunotherapy Department. As Medical Director, I worked very closely with Bryan on a daily basis.

Bryan was a mentor, friend, supporter, and cheerleader. For 3 years, he was my rock. He led through kindness and compassion. He was someone who always knew the right thing to do. He was a brilliant role model and most importantly, was always there for me.

Bryan has a huge fan club at Moffitt (I'd like to think I was President of that fan club) and he has been sorely missed. I cannot fully express my sadness about the passing of this wonderful man.

I know you all are devastated and as an oncologist, I know full well that there are really no words that can make this better. I guess God needed Bryan right now. May time pass quickly so that Bryan's memory brings you only smiles and not tears.

With my deepest sympathy,

My Mentor, friend, brilliant outstanding scientist, great clinician Dear Prof Mciver was going to give a talk for Turkish thyroid meeting saturday night, I have learned in the morning his sudden loss from my other great mentor Prof Eberhardt 😔
We held a one minute silence as Turkish endocrinologists at the end of our meeting.
As your friends we always love you and miss you ❤️
Bryan is one of the smartest, most energetic and friendly clinician I have ever seen.
Working with Brayn and discussing new ideas is a scientific pleasure and happiness.
He is one of the best authors on thyroid cancer in the world, a wonderful teacher and scientist with a truly beautiful heart
We had plans to work together again and travel in Turkey.

What I learned from Bryan was that I could do anything. The point was that you don't have to be a pathologist to find something new in pathology, everything is actually very simple. Science is simple.
Dear Prof Mciver, prof Eberhardt and Prof Gharib are always from my family.
I would like to respectfully remind everyone in his family that they have a brother in Turkey.
rest in peace in heaven
