Dr. Walter Frank Turbyfill Jr.

Dr. Walter Frank "Jack" Turbyfill, 92, beloved husband of Sue Loner Turbyfill, passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 16, 2025 under hospice care.

Jack was born February 7, 1933 in Columbia, SC to the late Walter Frank Turbyfill, Sr and the late Lona Wiggins Turbyfill. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina and a 1959 graduate of the University of Louisville School of Dentistry. After graduation, he returned home to Columbia and practiced dentistry for nearly 60 years in Cayce, SC and later in West Columbia, SC.

He presented programs at dental meetings throughout the US, Canada, and Europe. He lectured and taught courses in removable prosthetics sponsored by universities, dental schools, study clubs, and laboratories. Jack was a member of the American Dental Association, the American Prosthodontic Society, the American Academy of Restorative Dentistry, the American Equilibration Society, the Southeastern Academy of Prosthodontics, The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, a charter member of the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry, and a fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry and the International College of Dentists.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Kaye Turbyfill Allison. Jack is survived by his wife, Sue Loner Turbyfill; his sons, Walter Frank “Trip” Turbyfill (Marila), Todd Turbyfill, Andy Turbyfill (Lisa); his daughter, Jenny Turbyfill Burkholder (Scott), and his stepson, Robert Hartman (Kay). Jack leaves behind his grandchildren, Allison Moss, Kyle and Christian Turbyfill, Lauren and Anna Turbyfill, Eric and Kaylee Burkholder, Olivia Hartman, Erin Hartman Bowling; two nephews, Tracey and Jason Allison and numerous great- and great-great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Jack’s hospice team and the staff of Ridgeway Manor for the excellent care he received. A special thank you to Ginger Simmons, his in-home caregiver and friend.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Dr. Turbyfill to Cedar Creek Baptist Church at 1920 Cedar Creek Road in Blythewood, SC 29016.

A funeral service for Dr. Turbyfill Jr., 92, will be held at 2:00 pm Friday April 25, 2025 at Dunbar Funeral Home at 3926 Devine Street Columbia SC with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. immediately preceding the funeral.
