She was born on October 6, 1922, in Philadelphia, PA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Mabel Tomlinson Pollock; her beloved husband of 32 years, Frank Reginald Powell Benson in 1979; her brother, William Alan Pollock, and sister, Joan Pollock Hastings. She lived in Columbia, SC, for more than 60 years and was the oldest member of St. John’s Episcopal Church at the time of her death. She served on the Vestry and was a member of St. Monica’s Guild where she served as treasurer for decades. In the mid-1940s, as a young woman, she worked in marketing at the beginning of the television advertising industry, and later spent parts of four different decades working in the insurance business in Columbia until her retirement in 1990. In her retirement she served as a volunteer at St. John’s and as a volunteer receptionist at the Diocesan House. Her greatest joy was visiting her grandchildren and watching her great-grandchildren grow.

Remembering a most kind lady from our years at St. John's. Edie was always such a joy to be around. I was so honored when she asked me to serve as a pall bearer for Major Benson's funeral. They were quite the pair. My sympathy to the family.
'Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon her. Amen"

I loved Edith and her husband. They were stalwarts. They were of the 'old' guard at Saint John's. Not too many like 'em left.
