Edward Earl (Ed) Bailey, Jr., of Irmo, passed away on May 12, 2019 in Columbia, SC after a brief illness.

Ed was born on August 25, 1945 at Columbia Army Air Base, the son of the late Edward Earl Bailey, Sr. and Mary Screven Simpson Bailey. Ed graduated from A.C. Flora high school and the University of South Carolina. He worked for Southern Railway in Atlanta before returning to Columbia to work in the family business for many years. Ed joined Control Management, Inc. in 1992 where he was credited with opening the Myrtle Beach office of CMI and using his technical skills and education to manage commercial projects for the company. He retired from CMI in 2013.

Although Ed loved his work, he valued time spent with family even more. Ed loved the mountains and especially hiking with his three children and their families near Flat Rock, NC. He could often be found at his farm in Carlisle, SC with his children and grandchildren sharing his love of the great outdoors and instilling that love which will serve as his legacy. Ed was an avid hunter and enjoyed traveling to Alaska, Argentina, Bull Island and other places to hunt and fish with family and friends. Ed was also a lifetime sailor and a long-time member of Columbia Sailing Club. When he left Myrtle Beach he settled on Lake Murray where he could continue to enjoy the lake and sailing while sharing this love with his family.

Ed is survived by his children, Scott (Nancye) Bailey, of Prosperity; Melvin Christopher (Stephanie) Bailey, of Columbia; and Anne Screven Bailey, of Raleigh, North Carolina. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Rebecca Kennedy Bailey, Walker Charles Bailey, Ries Edward Bailey, Teodosio Alexander Lee and Silas Screven Lee; as well as by his brother George (Ford) Bailey and his nephew and niece, Darnall Bailey and Mary Bond Bailey. He is also survived by his faithful canine companion, Abby, who was forever by his side. He was preceded in death by both his parents.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at 11:00 am at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel with visitation immediately following at the home of George and Ford Bailey.
