Elizabeth “Pat” Grayson

Elizabeth “Pat” Grayson, of Charleston , South Carolina, passed away peacefully on July 15, at the age of 91. Born and raised in Clemson, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Isaac and Bertha Patterson.

Pat graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina School of Nursing in 1957, where she ultimately retired after 45 years of dedicated service as a RN. A devoted Christian, Pat lived her life with faith, compassion, kindness, laughter and love for others.

Pat loved people and found joy in nature, gardening, animals, sports, and, most of all, her family. Go Tigers!

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Marion “Sam” Grayson; her parents, Isaac and Bertha Patterson; her brothers, David Patterson, Hogan Patterson, Ike Patterson Jr., Bobby Patterson, and Charles Patterson; and her sister, Marilyn Anderson.

She is survived by her children, Christy Brazell (Greg), Steve Grayson, Stuart Grayson (Dell) , and David Grayson (Laura) ; her brother, George Patterson (Donna); her grandchildren, Kacie Silver Osolin (Jason), Monique Grayson, Josh Grayson, Alex Grayson (Bailey), Sam Grayson (Nicole), Ashley Wilkes (Austin), Madisyn Morris (Caleb), Matt Brazell (Caleigh), and Greg Brazell Jr.; 13 cherished great-grandchildren; her sisters-in-law, Judy Crump and Mary Jane Patterson; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

The family will hold a private service. A celebration of Pat’s life will be held at a later date.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful hospice nurses from both St. Simon’s and Columbia who brought Pat and her family comfort, happiness, guidance, and compassionate care during the final chapter of her life.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Nature Conservancy of South Carolina in Pat’s memory.
