Services for Elizabeth “Lib” Gillmore Smith will be held on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her honor to S.C. Disability and Special Needs Foundation, P.O. Box 4346, Columbia, SC 29240.
She was born on December 20, 1927 in Lykesland, S.C. Her parents were Robert Amos Gillmore and Ocey Lyle Fudge Gillmore and was married to Howard Lee Smith, all who preceded her in death. At age 6, Elizabeth’s mother died and her Grandmother Gillmore assumed the role of mother to both Elizabeth and her younger sister, Mary Helen.
Elizabeth graduated from Lower Richland High School and University of South Carolina with an Associate Degree in Secretarial Science. She utilized this degree at Columbia City Public Schools, Richland School District, and later years at Temple Baptist Church.
She served as a volunteer for 25 years at Providence Hospital in Out Patient Surgery. In addition, she was very involved at Greenlawn Baptist Church (Sunbeams, Vacation Bible School, History Committee, Chairman Caring Committee, and Chairman Homebound Committee).
She enjoyed serving as a judge many years at S.C. State Fair (Arts & Crafts).
Elizabeth cherished time with her family. This included the love she shared with her nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. She is survived by her two sons, Tommy and Lee (Carolyn); two granddaughters, Ashley Lindeman (Nathan) and Allison Nelson (Chris); four great-grandchildren, Hunter Lindeman, Grayson Lindeman, Aubrey Nelson, and Blair Nelson; and sister, Mary Helen Camak (Clifton).
The family expresses appreciation to all the ways members and friends from Greenlawn have supported her.
