Emily Deas Rhoden

SUMMERVILLE - A memorial service for Emily Deas Rhoden, 92, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 6, 2024 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with burial in Sumter Cemetery, Sumter SC. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Ms. Rhoden died Thursday, December 28, 2023. Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Evander and Nancy Richardson Deas. She graduated from Columbia Hospital School of Nursing in 1952 and worked for 30 years at Thompson Student Health Center at the University of SC. She was an active member of First Baptist Church.

Surviving are her daughter, Nancy Rhoden Lane of Mt. Pleasant; son, Ernest Eugene “Gene” Rhoden (Donna) of Boca Raton, FL; six grandchildren, John B. “Jay” Lane (April), Jennifer Lane Gardner (Jason), Julie Lane Walker (David), Calvin “Cal” Eugene Rhoden, Ryan James Rhoden, Lindsey Gail Rhoden; three great-grandchildren, Scarlett Walker, Mason Walker, and Alex Lane.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Thomas E. Deas Jr. and A Burchell Deas and a sister, Nancy Deas Player.

The family wishes to thank the staff of The Village at Summerville, especially those working on the B Hall, for the kindness and loving care given to our mother.
