
COLUMBIA - Ethel Willis Sims, 61, known, fondly, to many as “Sisi,” died Saturday, January 9, 2016. Born in Columbia to Mr. and Mrs. Walter Heriot Sims, she was educated in the Columbia Public Schools and graduated from USC with a BFA degree in 1976. She was a member and past president of Delta Delta Delta sorority, a member of The Junior League, The Colonial Dames, and a former board member of The Humane Society. Sisi worked for a number of years as a graphic designer for several local companies and was the art director for “La Bobina,” a Spanish language trade magazine for sewn products. She was tirelessly active in local charities and causes such as the Humane Society and was also involved in a number of political campaigns. She was a talented artist whose work in ceramics, paintings, and prints is admired by many. She is survived by her siblings, a sister, Arianna Sims Derrick, and brother, Walter H. Sims, Jr., a nephew, two nieces, and a grand niece. She was devoted to her family, friends, and animals all of her life. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Humane Society, 121 Humane Lane, Columbia, SC 29209; The Animal Mission, 127 Humane Lane, Columbia SC 29209; or Compassionate Care Hospice, 455 St. Andrews Road, Columbia, SC 29210. Family and friends are invited to a celebration of her life to be held at 1427 Wyndham Road, Tuesday, January 12, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Burial services will be private.
