

COLUMBIA - A memorial service for Evelyn Johnson Ruffin, 77, widow of Lt. Col. James A. Ruffin, will be held on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at St. Michael and All Angels’ Episcopal Church. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. and the memorial service will begin at 11:00 a.m., with burial in Fort Jackson National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m.
Surviving are her son, Alexis Peter Lecouras and his wife, Amy of Severna Park, MD; grandchildren, Ariana Jean, Alexis William, and Mayola Grace Lecouras; and sister, Elizabeth J. Mahon. She was predeceased by a daughter, Tara Lynn Messervy and two brothers, Thomas R. Johnson Jr. and Frank Johnson.
Mrs. Ruffin died Saturday, December 25, 2021. Born in Greensboro, North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Thomas R. Johnson and Evelyn Floyd Johnson. A graduate of the University of South Carolina, she was a microbiologist at the Department of Health and Environmental Control. She was also a director at Pal Travel School, a member of St. Michael and All Angels’ Episcopal Church, and a local Columbia artist.
