Franke Schofield Taylor

COLUMBIA - Franke Schofield Taylor, 85, died Monday, February 5, 2018. Born in Marion, SC, she was a daughter of the late Dr. Nathan Norris Schofield and Ethel Watson Schofield. She was born November 9, 1932 on the night that Franklin Delano Roosevelt was elected President and her father named her Franke Delano Schofield. She received a handkerchief with his initials and letters from President Roosevelt which she treasured her entire life. A graduate of Marion High School and The University of South Carolina, she taught for several years at Satchelford Elementary School and later retired as Budget Director for the Business School of USC. She was a member of Grace Church of Columbia.

Surviving are her son, Joe E. Taylor, Jr. (Amanda) of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Ann DeLeon Taylor and John Walker Taylor; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Thomas “Tommy” Schofield Taylor; brothers, Dr. John William Schofield, Dr. Elliott Crayton Schofield and Commander Thomas Griffith Schofield; and sister, Mary Watson Murchison.

Following a private graveside service on Thursday, February 8, 2018, the family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. at the home of Joe and Amanda Taylor. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.
