CHARLESTON - Funeral service for Fredrick Carl Bowen, 54, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 7, 2015, at Washington Street United Methodist Church, Columbia, S.C., with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family. “Freddy” to some people and “Fred” to others, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2015, following an illness. His sister, Melinda was with him at the end. Fred was the son of the late Dr. and Mrs. William Ward Bowen. He was born in Hartsville, S.C. He loved music, never complained about his pain, and always wore a smile on his face. Surviving are his siblings, Charlotte (Gary) Hardin of Shelby, N.C., Cindy Proveaux of Cape Coral, Fla., Bill (Paula) Bowen of Anderson, S.C., Melinda Curgan of Florence, S.C., and Elizabeth Lindler of New Bern, N.C.; two nephews; four nieces; and three great-nephews. He will be missed greatly by his family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Darlington County Disabilities Foundation, c/o Bowen House, 201 N. Damascus Church Road, Hartsville, SC 29550.
