Geraldine Garner Childs

COLUMBIA Geraldine "Geri" Garner Childs passed away peacefully in her home early Friday, June 17, 2016. Born September 7, 1923 in Jonesville, S.C., Geri graduated from Winyah High School, Georgetown, S.C. and attended Limestone College. In 1940, Geri met William L. Childs at the A&P Grocery Store in Spartanburg. They fell in love and married September 18, 1942. We know Geri is so happy now to join her Bill in Heaven. Geri was a devoted housewife and mother, active in recent years at Shandon Methodist Church. She is survived by her children, Marty Santiago (Mitch), Bill Childs, Jr. (Gayle), Wayne Childs, and Ken Childs; eleven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and nieces, cousins and countless wonderful friends. A celebration of her life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at Shandon Methodist Church, 3407 Devine Street, Columbia, SC 29205. There will be a reception at the church following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Geri's honor to Hospice & Palliative Care Foundation, P.O. Box 151, Drayton, SC 29333. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.
