

Harry Lee Dunston went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 20, 2024 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Harry was born on June 19, 1930 in Gloucester County, Virginia the youngest of 11 children of John Thomas Dunston and Lucy Edna King. He graduated from Achilles High School in Gloucester County, Virginia. Harry joined the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean War in San Antonio TX. In 1958, he married the love of his life, Mary Agnes Rowe. In 1961, Harry’s job brought them to Charleston, SC which became their adopted home town.
Harry worked at The Noland Company in Newport News, Virginia before relocating to Charleston and later joined Cameron and Barkley Company as a Regional Credit Manager. After Harry retired, he and Agnes enjoyed buying and selling antique furniture and books. They travelled up and down the East Coast on buying trips and made many friends along the way. They loved working in their two antique booths at Terrace Oaks Antique Mall and Mount Pleasant Antique Mall. Harry was a gifted wood worker and loved to spend time in his shop where he refinished antique furniture, clocks and built custom furniture. Harry was an avid tennis player and played tennis 3-4 days per week at the Maybank Tennis Center well into his 80’s. Harry loved the water and boating. He and Agnes’ favorite past times were spending time on the creeks along the intercoastal crabbing and enjoying the sunsets.
A longtime active member of Ashley River Baptist Church, he and Agnes worked in the Singles Ministry and he loved to assist in cooking the meals on Wednesday nights. Harry’s faith was an integral part of his life and family.
Harry’s strongest love was for his family. He is survived by two sons, Harry Lee Dunston, Jr. (Beverly) and Christian Rowe Dunston (Amy); four grandchildren, Andrew Dunston (Jessica), Gregory Dunston, Kai Dunston and Amani Dunston; two great-grandchildren, Caroline Dunston and Jack Dunston; and numerous nieces and nephews. Harry was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Agnes Rowe Dunston. As the youngest of 11 siblings, he was also predeceased by all of his eight sisters and two brothers.
